When we empower people with disabilities to lead lives that are more independent and productive, everyone wins. Which is why we are committed to getting rid of the barriers that can make it difficult for individuals to find – and keep – a job.

Each year, we assist more than 200 people as they go through the journey of identifying the work they want to do, getting the skills and education they need, applying for positions and maintaining employment once hired.

This year marks the 75th observance of National Disability Employment Awareness Month as well as the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Two extremely important milestones to commemorate this October 2020. National Disability Employment Awareness happens each October to help educate our community about disability employment issues as well as celebrate the countless contributions of workers with barriers to employment.

By partnering with Community Service Organizations such as Quality Connections, we provide assistance with training, support, and information on tax credits to ensure success for both the employer and employee.

National Employment Disability Awareness Month, creating a culture of inclusion while providing awareness and access for all!

Selena’s Story:
Selena was hired at Safeway as a courtesy clerk. She interacts with customers while bagging groceries and frequently helps out with cashiering when needed. Selena recently received a promotion to be a personal shopper which she is really looking forward to!!

‘It is a really fun environment to work in and my confidence has improved. What I like the most is being able to do different kinds of tasks. I also like the people I work with and showing Safeway customers where items are located. When I was hired, it was a really rewarding experience.”

Selena’s Supervisor Charlotte says she doesn’t know what she would do without Selena! She is great!

Selena came to QC’s Employment Services program through DES/Vocational Rehabilitation. She received Rehabilitation Instructional Services to work on her interpersonal skills, communication, and how to interact when difficult situations come up at work. Selena worked hard to hone in her resume building and interview skills and she landed her dream job - providing customer service at one of our local Safeway stores!

We want to emphasize that people with disabilities are talented and dedicated to what they do. They add diversity to the workplace and we will continue to encourage and support our devoted community businesses to increase access for all individuals.

Thank you, Safeway for your continued support and for taking the steps to ensure people with disabilities are represented in our workforce!! 💗

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

It was QC’s commitment to working with people with disadvantages and disabilities, coupled with a highly professional and compassionate team that led me to choose full time employment with Quality Connections.  Today, I work full time as an Office Products Consultant, helping generate revenue for our non-profit and in doing so, furthering the mission of helping people."
