Diverge Media
QC's Member-powered creative media platform built for empowerment!
Diverge Media is the newest addition to QC’s Adult Day Programs in Flagstaff & Page Arizona.
Our mission is simple: to empower voices, build skills, and connect our community through member-produced media. Diverge Media gives Members the opportunity to break from the norm and broadcast what really matters: authenticity, inclusion, and expression without limits. It’s a platform with no labels and no limits, where every voice can be heard.
Communication: A Key to Connection and Inclusion
Communication is so much more than just speaking – it’s how we connect with others, advocate for ourselves, build relationships, and fully participate in our communities. For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), however, communication challenges remain one of the biggest barriers to inclusion, independence, and employment.
The National Joint Committee for the Communication Needs of Persons with Severe Disabilities (NJC) affirms that all individuals with disabilities have “a basic right to affect, through communication, the conditions of their existence”. In other words, effective communication is a fundamental human right and essential for self-advocacy. Research backs this up: communication permeates every aspect of life, influencing one’s self-determination and overall quality of life. Studies have shown that building strong communication skills can lead to numerous positive outcomes for people with disabilities, including:
- Greater self-determination and independence: Being able to express needs and choices empowers individuals to direct their own lives.
- Stronger social relationships: Good communication is the foundation of friendship and belonging, whereas communication difficulties can shrink one’s social network and increase isolation.
- Better employment prospects: Communication is a top “soft skill” in the workplace – in fact, lack of communication skills is a common factor in job loss for adults with autism. Mastering communication can open doors to meaningful jobs and leadership roles.
